Dr. Maia holds B.A. (English) from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, then M.A. and Ph.D. both in Creative Writing from Sydney. Her past research focused on color perceptions and color categorization in advertising created by the blind (inspired by her own experience from temporary blind caused by hemiplegia in 2005), which was awarded Best Paper in European Conference in 2008 and her current studies, in cooperation with Otolaryngology Institute of Thailand and Setsatian school for the Deaf, focus on individual differences in language acquisition especially in those with hearing impairment and hearing loss and with cochlear implants. She received a Young Alumni Award for an outstanding Thai alumnus who has made a significant contribution to relations between Thailand and Australia in 2009 through to 2010.
She is currently working with overseas speech and ENT specialists, to develop a collaborative research aiming to increase awareness of hearing loss, language/speech delay as well as to improve quality of life.
